WHO AM I?

Who am I in hunts point? Well to start of my name is Gabriella Cabrera. I’m a typical 15 year old who goes to a school named Hyde Leadership Charter School. I am in the 10^th grade. My school is located in 830 hunts Point Avenue. I live a little further down from southern Blvd. and I never heard of a school named Hyde. To be honest I never even seen this side of hunts point because I felt I had no business over here. My mother was actually the one who discovered the school so nearby because of a flyer my middle school teacher gave her. We did a little research found out it was a very good school. My mom enrolled me in and ever since 6^th grade I’ve been a part of a Hyde community with a journey filled with laughter, joy and struggles.

The first time I’ve been a part of an art class was in the 8^th grade. I never got the chance to express what hunts point felt to me or most importantly the role I play in the neighborhood. To be honest I never really took the time to think about it. At that time things didn't matter to me.

In 10th grade was my second year of taking another art class. I soon noticed myself doing an art piece titled "who am I in hunts point. The assignment was to take a picture of yourself doing whatever it is you do in hunts point. As my picture I put myself by the lockers. I had my school uniform and my bag in my hand, this meant that I only went to school in hunts point. It didn't mean I didn't care about my environment, it just meant that I'm determined to do what I need to do in order to get the education I deserve. It also meant that I don't associate myself with people who live around hunts point. Don't get me wrong its not because I think I'm any better but I was taught to do what I had to do in school & put friends second.The lighting in my picture was a little dim. I choose this to show that sometimes it may get a little boring. I also choose to put the camera at an normal angle to show I'm a normal girl in the halls of Hyde.

Through out this art piece I learned to take the time and think about the environment around you. I'm very proud of the way my work came out and I'm also proud of the time I put into it.I feel that whatever I put my mind to will always get achieved.
